We currently sow a dozen varieties of garlic in our 3 different locations. Our garlic growing process is specific to Natural Source Farms. Before planting the garlic cloves in the fall, we harvest the late summer crops and clear the beds. After our soil is prepped, we use our homemade garlic planter to evenly space the garlic cloves in the beds.
Once the cloves are planted, we water all the beds and layer our "Gold" compost 2"-4"' thick. This compost layer offers a slow release of nutrients for building soil health. Lastly, we layer aged hay or straw on top of the beds to protect the soil. We use straw & hay because it feeds the soil as breaks down, preserves soil moisture, and helps prevent weed growth throughout the year.
