We have grown and provided fresh produce for our family and friends since 1993 from our 250 sq. ft. backyard garden. Today, we plant 3 locations, one of which is still our backyard garden. We specialize in growing crops in an all natural way with no chemical fertilizers and one simple ingredient--compost. We create our compost from a wide variety of naturally sourced vegetation that we produce. We love growing nutrient dense food in a sustainable way with minimal tillage. We provide our soil with the basics of life and in return we receive a spectacular assortment of fresh nutrient dense produce.
We love what we do, which is why we are transcending the line from providing for our family to also providing for you. We now grow 58 fruits and vegetable varieties and are continuing to expand. 16 of these varieties are heirlooms: carrots, tomatoes, spicy peppers, sweet peppers, squash and cucumbers. We sell most of our produce at local farmers markets, but we ship garlic across the US.
No, we don't just grow garlic! We grow many different fruits and vegetables such as carrots, beets, green beans, zucchini, red potatoes, radishes, dill, cilantro and much more. We also have flowers blooming throughout the growing season (take a look in the gallery). One main characteristic of our farms is diversity--not only of our crops, but also our species of flowers, insects and trees.
Everything we do is natural. We mimic nature as closely as possible for healthy and productive plants. We have learned the best way to control pests on the farm is to plant flowers to attract natural enemies of those pests. Nature controls everything for us, we are just here to help it along and keep our soil healthy and productive.
The way we keep our soil healthy and productive is through the microbes living in our soil. This includes bacteria, fungi, earthworms and many more species. We help keep our soil microbes healthy through the addition of our compost which is full of nutrients and organic matter that feeds the microbes and makes nutrients available for plant consumption. Keeping a living root in the soil for the entirety of the growing season feeds soil microbes through the plants root exudates. Plants feed the microbes, and the microbes feed the plants. When there are no chemicals to disrupt this system, the natural system flourishes.
Our rich homemade Compost consists of aged organically grown chicken manure, lawn clippings, leaves collected in the fall, and most importantly all the vegetation from our gardens. We have a very specific blend of "greens" and "browns" that are mixed together throughout the spring and summer to be prepared for our fall planting of garlic.
"We are thankful for our parents, grandparents and friends who shared their knowledge and abilities in their gardens as we were growing up. It has truly turned into more than just a hobby for us. We continue to learn each year through successes and failures and reading all kinds of great literature. We are proud to always be improving our ways of growing and our stewardship to the landscapes we farm."
